Practical, healthy ways to calm exam nerves, beat distraction and stay focused — without burning out.

Some stress is normal — it means you care. The goal isn't zero stress, it's keeping it small enough to think clearly. CALM THE NERVES • Breathe slowly: in for 4 counts, hold 4, out for 6. Two minutes of this genuinely lowers panic. • Prepare, don't cram: a steady plan over weeks beats one frightening all-nighter. • Sleep is not optional. A tired brain forgets — 7–8 hours before an exam beats 2 extra hours of study. BEAT DISTRACTION • Phone in another room while studying — "just checking" is the #1 focus killer. • Work in 25-minute focused blocks with 5-minute breaks. • One task at a time. Multitasking feels productive but halves your focus. ON EXAM DAY • Read the whole paper first; start with questions you know to build confidence. • Stuck on a question? Mark it, move on, come back. Don't let one question eat your time. • If panic rises, pause, breathe, remind yourself: you've prepared, just do the next line. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF Eat, drink water, move a little, and talk to someone if it feels too heavy. Marks matter, but they are not worth your health. If stress ever feels overwhelming, tell a parent, teacher or trusted adult — asking for help is strength, not weakness.
