A simple four-part structure that instantly improves essays, answers and applications — with a filled-in example.
PEEL is a recipe for a paragraph that actually makes a point. Four steps:
P — POINT: State your main idea in one clear sentence.
E — EVIDENCE: Give a fact, example, or quote that supports it.
E — EXPLAIN: Say HOW the evidence proves your point.
L — LINK: Connect back to the question or lead into the next idea.
EXAMPLE (question: 'Should students play sport?')
Point: Playing sport regularly helps students study better.
Evidence: Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and releases chemicals that improve mood and focus.
Explain: A calmer, more focused student absorbs lessons faster and remembers them longer, so time on the field is not time lost.
Link: For this reason, schools should treat sport as part of learning, not a distraction from it.
WHY IT WORKS: Most weak answers give a point with no proof, or proof with no point. PEEL forces both, in order. Use one PEEL paragraph per idea. For a full essay, write three PEEL paragraphs between your introduction and conclusion.
