Strong passwords, two-factor authentication and privacy basics — how to keep your accounts and personal information safe online.
Your online accounts are as valuable as your money. A few habits keep them safe.
STRONG PASSWORDS
• Long beats complex — a passphrase like "BlueTiger-Runs-Fast-42" is strong and easy to remember.
• Never reuse the same password everywhere. If one site is hacked, all your accounts fall.
• Use a password manager (or your phone's built-in one) so you don't have to remember them all.
TURN ON TWO-FACTOR (2FA)
Add a second step (an OTP or an authenticator app) to important accounts — email, bank, social media. Even if someone gets your password, they can't get in without the second code.
PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY
• Think before you post: anything public can be seen by anyone, forever.
• Don't share your home address, school timings, live location or documents publicly.
• Check app permissions — does a torch app really need your contacts and location? Deny what isn't needed.
SPOT THE TRAPS
• Phishing: fake emails/SMS pretending to be your bank or a prize. Don't click links; go to the official app/site directly.
• Never share OTP, passwords or your UPI PIN with anyone — no real company ever asks.
• Public Wi-Fi is risky for logins and payments — avoid banking on it.
If an account is ever hacked: change the password immediately, turn on 2FA, and log out all devices.
