Your First Resume — Indian Format

Your first resume gets about 10 seconds of attention. Make those seconds count. This is the standard format Indian recruiters expect. WHAT A FRESHER'S RESUME SHOULD CONTAIN (in order) 1) Header: full name, phone, a professional email (firstname.lastname@…), city, and a LinkedIn link. No photo, age, or full address needed. 2) Short summary (2 lines): who you are + what you're looking for. E.g. "Final-year B.Com student seeking an internship in accounting; comfortable with Excel and Tally." 3) Education: most recent first — degree, institution, year, and % / CGPA. 4) Skills: real, specific skills — "Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables)", "Python", "English & Hindi" — not "hardworking". 5) Projects / Experience: even college projects count. Use bullet points that start with an action verb and show a result. 6) Certifications / Achievements: online courses, olympiads, volunteering, positions of responsibility. WRITE BULLETS THAT IMPRESS Formula: Action verb + what you did + result/number. ✗ "Was part of the college fest." ✓ "Led a 6-member team to organise the college fest, managing a ₹40,000 budget and 300+ attendees." COMMON MISTAKES THAT GET RESUMES REJECTED • Spelling and grammar errors — always get someone to proofread. • More than one page for a fresher. • Fancy fonts/colours — keep it clean and readable (one simple font). • Same resume for every job — tweak the summary and skills to match each role. • Fake claims — you will be caught in the interview.
