How to prepare for and handle your first job or internship interview — what to research, common questions, and how to leave a strong impression.
An interview is a conversation, not an interrogation. They already liked your resume — now they just want to know you.
BEFORE THE INTERVIEW
• Research the company: what they do, and why you'd like to work there.
• Re-read the job description and match 2–3 of your strengths to it.
• Prepare your "Tell me about yourself" (a 4–5 line intro — who you are, what you're good at, what you want).
• Keep a copy of your resume, a pen, and your documents ready.
COMMON QUESTIONS (prepare simple, honest answers)
• "Tell me about yourself."
• "Why do you want this role / company?"
• "What are your strengths and one weakness?" (name a real weakness + how you're improving it)
• "Where do you see yourself in a few years?"
• "Do you have any questions for us?" — always have one ready (e.g. "What does a typical day look like?").
DURING
• Arrive early, dress neatly, greet with a smile and a firm handshake.
• Listen fully before answering; it's fine to pause and think.
• Use real examples ("In my college project I…") — stories beat adjectives.
• Be honest. If you don't know something, say you'd be glad to learn it.
AFTER
A short thank-you message is a nice touch. And whatever the result — ask yourself what went well and what to improve. Every interview makes the next one easier.
