Which Stream After Class 10 — Science, Commerce or Arts?

Choosing a stream after Class 10 feels huge — but it's a decision you can make calmly if you understand what each path really opens up. There are no "wrong" streams, only fits. THE THREE MAIN STREAMS • Science (PCM / PCB): keeps the widest doors open — engineering (PCM), medicine (PCB), research, tech, data, and most other fields later. Best if you enjoy maths/experiments and problem-solving. It's demanding, so pick it because you like it, not only for "status". • Commerce: business, accounting, finance, economics, law, management. Leads to CA, CS, B.Com, BBA, banking and entrepreneurship. Great if you like numbers, money, business and real-world logic. • Arts / Humanities: history, political science, psychology, sociology, languages, design, media, law, civil services. Wrongly seen as "easy" — it actually leads to law, journalism, UPSC, design, teaching and more. Best if you love reading, expression, people and ideas. HOW TO ACTUALLY DECIDE 1) Interest first: which subjects do you enjoy even without exams? 2) Strengths: where do your marks and effort pay off most? 3) Career pull: list 2-3 careers you're curious about and check which stream they need. 4) Keep options open: if unsure and you can handle maths, Science (PCM) keeps the most paths open — but don't take it just to "delay deciding" if you dislike it. MYTHS TO IGNORE • "Science is superior." No — every stream leads to strong careers. • "Commerce/Arts means low salary." Untrue — CA, law, design, civil services and business can out-earn many others. • "You can never switch." You can — many students move across fields in college and beyond. A quiet truth: the stream matters less than how sincerely you work in it. Pick what you can stay motivated in for two years.
