Where to find government, state and private scholarships, how to win one, and how to avoid scholarship scams — money should never stop a capable student.

Money should never be the reason a capable student stops learning. India has hundreds of scholarships — many go unclaimed simply because students don't know about them. Here's how to find and win them. WHERE TO LOOK (start here) • National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in): the government's single window for central & state scholarships — merit, means, minority, SC/ST/OBC, and more. • State scholarship portals: most states run their own (post-matric, pre-matric, fee reimbursement). • Private & corporate scholarships: many companies and foundations fund students — search "[your class/course] scholarship India". • College/institution scholarships: ask your own school/college office — internal waivers exist and are under-used. TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS • Merit-based: for strong marks / exam ranks. • Means-based: based on family income. • Category-based: for specific communities, girls, differently-abled students, etc. • Talent-based: sports, arts, coding, olympiads. HOW TO ACTUALLY WIN ONE 1) Keep documents ready: Aadhaar, income certificate, marksheets, bank passbook, caste certificate (if applicable), passport photo. 2) Apply early — many close quietly before the deadline and funds run out. 3) Apply to several — treat it like a numbers game, not one big hope. 4) Write honestly in any essay: your real story beats fancy words. STAY SAFE Genuine scholarships never ask for a "registration fee" or your OTP/UPI PIN. If someone demands money to "release" a scholarship, it's a scam — walk away. One application can change a family's year. If you know a student who needs this, share it with them.
