A fast, clear revision of the major human body systems — what each one does and the key organs — perfect before a test.
A one-page mental model of how the human body works. Revise this, then go deeper where you're unsure.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Breaks food into nutrients the body can absorb. Path: mouth → oesophagus → stomach → small intestine (most absorption) → large intestine → out. Helpers: liver (bile), pancreas (enzymes).
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Brings in oxygen, removes carbon dioxide. Path: nose → trachea → bronchi → lungs → alveoli (where gas exchange happens with the blood).
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
Transports blood, oxygen and nutrients. Heart (pump) → arteries (carry blood away) → capillaries (exchange) → veins (return blood). Left side pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body; right side sends oxygen-poor blood to the lungs.
NERVOUS SYSTEM
The body's control and communication network. Brain + spinal cord (central) and nerves (peripheral). Carries signals fast; controls thought, movement and reflexes.
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Removes waste and balances water. Kidneys filter blood → make urine → bladder → out.
SKELETAL & MUSCULAR SYSTEMS
Bones give structure and protection; muscles move the body by contracting. They work as pairs (one contracts while the other relaxes).
Tip: for each system, be able to name (1) its job, (2) its main organs, and (3) the path something takes through it. That covers most exam questions.
