Capability: action

From flagged to fixed: intervention planning

An early warning that nobody acts on is just a better report. Ocoviz flags the students who need help, suggests focus areas, and helps teams plan, assign and track the response.

Why flags are not enough

The gap between “we know” and “we did something”

Without a plan

  • A red list is shared and forgotten
  • Every teacher improvises differently
  • No one checks whether it worked
  • The same students stay on the list for months

With a plan

  • Each flagged student gets one named action
  • An owner and a review date are set
  • Progress is checked on the same screen
  • Students leave the list because they improved
The cycle

A five-step intervention loop

Flag

A student moves into the Amber or Red band.

Diagnose

Look at the weak chapters and the trend to understand the gap.

Choose

Pick one action that fits the cause, not a generic one.

Assign

Name the owner and set a review date, usually two weeks.

Review

Check the trend. Improving: step back. Still red: escalate.

Examples schools use

Match the action to the cause

👥

Small-group re-teach

For a shared gap across several students in one class.

📝

Targeted practice

For a student who understands but needs repetition on specific topics.

🤝

Peer support

Pairing a confident student with one who is stuck, with guidance.

📞

Parent conversation

For attendance or home-routine causes, with a specific, kind ask.

🧑‍⚕️

Counsellor referral

When the cause looks emotional or behavioural, not academic.

📅

Catch-up plan

For gaps caused by absence, with the missed topics listed.

What Ocoviz provides

Support at every step of the loop

🎯

Red-zone lists

A prioritised list of students who need attention now.

💡

Suggested interventions

Focus areas and suggested next steps for each flagged student.

📄

Exportable reports

Share a clear summary with colleagues, parents or the principal.

🔄

Progress tracking

See whether a student is recovering, so support continues until it works.

Rule of thumb

Keep it small and specific

One student, one action, one owner, one date. Teams that try to fix everything at once fix nothing. Start with the top three students per class, review in two weeks, and widen only when the habit sticks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently asked questions

What is an academic intervention?
It is a planned action to help a student who is falling behind, such as a small-group re-teach, targeted practice, peer support or a conversation with the family.
How does Ocoviz suggest interventions?
For each flagged student, teachers see focus areas and suggested next steps based on the weak chapters and trend, which they can adapt.
Can we track whether an intervention worked?
Yes. Because readiness updates as new data arrives, teams can see whether a flagged student is improving, flat or still slipping.
How long should an intervention run before we review?
Two weeks is a practical default for most classroom interventions. Review sooner for urgent cases, and adjust based on what the data shows.
